Born as Vladimir Ilich Ulaynov in 22nd of April, 1870 to a family considered rich and received well education, he naturally studied law in university, as being a lawyer was the job that would offer him the most money at the time. His elder brother Aleksandr Ulyanov, being part of the revolutionary group “The People’s Will”, Lenin was exposed with many philosophies during his study in law school (“Vladimir Lenin,” 2013). He became a full time revolutionist after his graduation, eventually being the leader of the Bolsheviks of the Russian Social Democratic Work Party. Like many other revolutionist at that time, he got arrested and exile to Siberia, and managed to escape back to Russia because of his new adapted surname, Lenin. Lenin was determined to change Russia when he returned after World War One, he had believed that the revolution would work this time. After overthrowing the monarch and his men, Russia plummeted into a stated of civil war. Lenin lead the Bolshevik party victorious in the end, and officially established the Union of the Soviet Social Republics, or more commonly known as the U.S.S.R.
Destroyed by the civil war, Russia was in complete turmoil, however, with Lenin’s ambition and determination to make Russia the world’s superpower, he managed to recover the economy of Russia and established true communist rules. Believe in what Karl Marx has said in the past, Lenin wanted to make Russia a true communist country. Before Lenin could actually take any action and see the fruits of his revolution however, an attempted assassination has caused Lenin to be severely wounded and eventually a stroke on 21st of January, 1924 killed him.
Many historians wondered “what course the Soviet Union would have pursued had Lenin’s failing health not shortened his life” (“Vladimir Lenin,” 2013). Many people think that the Soviet Union would continue to follow Lenin’s ambition and might turn out as a true communist country, but nothing can be said for sure until it has actually happened. If the Soviet Union had not been in control of Joseph Stalin, it would be a completely different place.
Who knows? Maybe Lenin would be corrupted by power like many others if he had continued to be in control of Russia. At least now we can continue to view Lenin as a hero who tried to change Russia into a true, Marxist Communist country.
