Old Major is a character the only appears in the first chapter of Animal Farm. Old Major was considered as both Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin in the book, as both individuals show great ambition for a utopian world, much like Old Major in the book. Like Karl Marx, Old Major is the first anime to come up with an idea for the revolution, the first boar to notice the inequality between man and animal, and has an ambitious vision about the future in which all animals would be equal in the end.
Old Major, officially the “Willingdon Beauty”, was an aged and wise boar. After having a strange dream one night and realizing that his time is near, he gathers all the animals in his barn after the humans have slept the next day. Old Major then goes on to explain his theories and ambitions, about how man it the only enemy to animals, and that all animals shall work together, share resources and build a utopian world. Telling all the animals about his dream of the future utopian world that he did see, he also wants the other animals to never resemble man, and to never rush the revolution, as it’s time will eventually come. Shortly after that, Old Major dies of his old age.
This is considered as one of the many resemblance to Lenin, as Lenin dies shortly after establishing the USSR. Since Lenin is also widely considered a follower of a true Marxist communism, so they are often mentioned together. In this book, they are even labelled and represented by only one animal. I did not know why Karl Marx or Vladimir Lenin is represented by a boar, as they share almost no resemblance. This could be used so that it could aid the uprising of the pigs in later events.
