Karl Heinrich Marx or known simply as Karl Marx was known as the father of communism and the most influential socialist thinker until this date by many historians , philosophers and revolutionist (Kreis, 2008). This was because of of his famous work “Das Kapital” (literally meaning capital) which proposed to the world his idea of communism, where everyone is equal (“Karl Marx,” 2013).
Karl Marx was born in Germany on the 5th of May, 1818 to a family of lawyers, because of this Karl Marx was associated with law at a very young age, giving him the foundation to being a philosopher (“Karl Marx,” 2013). At the age of 24, Karl Marx became an editor for a newspaper in Germany, his extremist thinking caused him to be almost arrested. Then he escaped to Paris, married his wife Jenny von Westphalen, and got expelled in Paris in 1845. Marx then lived in Brussels, Belgium, but he never gave up his philosophies and continued to work on his communism. He then went back to Paris but was expelled again in 1849, and finally he went to England and made his home in London. It was in London where he met Friedrich Engels, the man who he would be writing “Das Kapital” and “Manifesto of the Communist Party” with. Karl Marx finally died in London on 14th of March, 1883. Only 8 people were present on his funeral because he wan’t well known, but his legacy lives on as his ideals were published, giving him the fame he would have never imagined (“Karl Marx,” 2013).
